The Narrative Shot

The Narrative shot. It’s a term we throw around a lot at Vessel Studios. It’s the ability to tell an expressive and focused story without relying on voiceover or over-the-top style. It’s when the animation’s shots hold true to narrative conventions like character, conflict/resolution, and climax. They are standards in main stream entertainment, but often overlooked in Medical Animation. Vessel Studios believes story comes first, and that’s why we use narrative shots, because we care the most about what every shot says.

We are always on the lookout for outstanding examples of the narrative shot to inspire and motivate our own work. Here is a marvelous short that says so much with so little by Eli Guerron:
